Fontainemore

“Here, where the River Lys
has shaped the rock
and the master stonemasons
have modelled the rural architecture”

A little gem of rural architecture, with a few hundred antique stone houses which dot the steep chestnut-rich slopes, the municipality of Fountainemore has managed to preserve the values of its landscape throughout generations, handed down by master stonemasons of the past.

Beyond the chapel of St. Antoine and the adjacent medieval bridge, the Gouffre de Guillmore is found, one among the most evocative points of interest of the area. It is a gorge that has been carved into the rock by the water of the river Lys, which plunges downwards in an impressive dive.

The procession to the Shrine of Oropa is local tradition and takes place every five years. This is the oldest Marian procession held in the Aosta Valley, and winds across the Nature Reserve of Mont Mars, which is rich in lakes and bogs.

Action Fontainemore

Canyoning in the ravines: with its narrow ravines and tumbling waterfalls, the gorge Gouffre de Guillemore offers a spectacular network of canyons for enthusiasts, who can test their skills against this unparalleled backdrop.

Climbing on the stone walls of G. Beuchod at Borney:
Fontainemore offers an equipped climbing wall, just beyond the village of Borney. The rocky spur is a typical outcrop of Gneissic mica schists; the cliff, exposed to the East, reaches a height of 120 meters.
