La Salle

“The family tree
of the rus and laàge

A land of forests, waterfalls, and streams. This is La Salle.

Larches (laàge in the local dialect), silver firs (vargno) and swiss pines (arolle) inhabit the area. But the copse wood is also rich in birches (biolle), poplars (arbéi) and in particular of alders (verne).

An alphabet of names and families. A family tree of local flora recounting how here men and trees have shared their roots and branches with each other.

And then there is the Lenteney, a river which gushes at the foot of the Paramont, and is fed by the glacier and the numerous snowfields which cover the sides of the mountain. Its limpid water tumble in noisy and frothing waterfalls into the Là-Haut valley.

The Derby Waterfalls are the most loved in the area. Fifty meters above the Dora, an old stone bridge which crosses the stream is still visible, bracing itself against the tumultuous waters which tumble from the cliffs. During the snow melts or during fierce storms, the bridge disappears, swallowed up by the vaporized froth of falling water.

Action La Salle

From rafting to tennis, and not forgetting winter sports and alpine skiing. The hamlet of Châtelard also hosts an equestrian centre which offers evocative trails to be made on horseback, even in winter, immersed in the snow.

Traditional sports: the traditional sport of La Salle is fiolet(a ball-and-stick game), which is rigorously practised on springtime Sundays, as soon as the snow has melted. Players meet on the fields of the plain, divide into teams, and climb the hill in search of the best-adapted terrain. The ideal places? They are found at Plan-balla-créha, above the town of Morgex and the Bard Pass.

Try it out: you will enjoy the experience!
