La Thuile

“One step
away from France”

It is almost like seeing him, the first man, on the Little St. Bernard Pass.
He discovered a crossing between the mountains and glaciers, and taught others about the path. This is how the story of the crossings began.

Before you reach France, beyond the Little St. Bernard Pass, there you will find La Thuile. A mining town in the historical Vallis Digna; the final stretch of the Aosta Valley. A witness to history since the time of Augustus.

A place rich in legends and stories, which the elders remember hearing narrated by their ancestors, during the “veillà”, the vigils, on freezing winter evenings, in the warmth of stables, against the background music of a harmonica or accordion.

From the coal seams of times passed, to the snow white ski district of today. Never forgetting its simple roots. Or better still: valuing them.

Action La Thuile

Mountain biking: double slopes
Climb to 2,400 meters altitude and beyond, with the Bosco Express and Chalet Express chairlifts. Immerge yourself in the Paradise of hiking. Get into the saddle and … go!
Descend along the 19 routes immersed in the pinewoods which cover La Thuile.
The international ticket is also valid for La Rosière’s routes, on the French slope.

Ski
Even the ski pass is unique: it allows you to ski on both sides of the slope. Those who choose La Thuile in winter can count on 38 ski tows, 160 km of perfectly snow-covered slopes, cable cars which transport 3,000 people per hour, 4 routes for cross-country skiing, heliskiing on the glaciers of the Rutor and Mont de Mirande, and snowkiting on the Little St. Bernard Pass.

In summer it is a true sporting haven for hikers: long trips or short strolls, over steep slopes of gentle ascents, to take on alone or with a guide. Numerous are the climbing walls.

One thing is certain: you cannot get bored at La Thuile!
