REGISTRATION RULES FOR THE TOR DES GEANTS® 2016
CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY
This race, in addition to being particularly long, involves many stretches at high altitudes, including above 3000 meters, and the conditions can be very difficult (running at night, in the wind, cold, rain, or snow). Proper training and a real capacity for self sufficiency are indispensable for successfully completing this individual race.
Therefore, to participate, you must:
- be absolutely aware of the length and unique details of the race
- be perfectly prepared, physically and mentally.
- have acquired, before the race, a real capacity for self sufficiency in the mountains, in order to better manage the problems presented by this type of competition, in particular:
- you must know how to tackle alone, without help, climatic conditions which can become difficult due to the altitude and weather conditions (dark, wind, cold, fog, rain, or snow)
- you must be able to handle, even when isolated, the physical or psychological problems caused by great fatigue, gastrointestinal problems, muscle or joint pain, small wounds or abrasions caused by prolonged movement, etc.
- be aware that the role of the Organization is not to help a runner manage the normal problems that may arise, and be aware that when running in the mountains in a race such as the Tor des Géants®, safety depends on the ability of the runner to adapt to the foreseeable problems or any problems that may arise.
There are no specific limitations for entry into the Tor des Géants®, but it is strongly recommended to have already participated in other long, multi-day routes before this competition.
A valid medical certificate declaring fitness for competitive sports, specifically for endurance sports, recognized in the country of residence, is required to validate the registration.
The registration fee is € 550.00.
This registration fee includes all services described in these regulations: the official race pack, the pasta party organized for the night before the race, the buffet upon arrival, all assistance and supplies provided during the race, transport back to the welcome base in Courmayeur, transport of the runners’ bags by an official from one life base to the next, and the final video of the race.
Registration is done via a pre-registration website at (www.100x100trail.com), filling out the form in its entirety. The process assigns a unique code to each registered person. Registration is unique to each individual, and exchanging bibs and/or replacing names is not allowed. If it is established that there was an exchange of registration between two people, both people will be removed from the registration list, and any payment they made will not be refunded.
Payment must be made by credit card upon registering online.
A maximum of 700 runners will be admitted.
By registering, you confirm having read and accepted the rules of the race.
The Organization reserves the right to assign, at its discretion, a number of wildcards to no more than 15% of those registered.
Each sponsor has a fixed number of registrations available for their own team, established during the contracting stage and commensurate with the sponsorship bracket, which each sponsor manages at its own discretion.
The organization reserves the right to invite athletes of key players in sports (running and trail-running) according to special criteria based on the ITRA Index of Performance (men> 850, women> 750). If an athlete wishes to register, they must submit their application no later than January 31, 2016.
20 solidarity bibs will be made available to runners. The sale of these bibs will be done via the 100x100trail.com website, from March 20, 2016 to June 30, 2016. The cost of each solidarity bib is €2,000.00. Payment is by credit card and a formal invoice will be issued for tax purposes. The organization will carry out payment of the assigned amount to the chosen association (to be defined), withholding outlay costs for management of the runner in the race (approximately €1,000.00).
Registration is handled by the website 100x100trail.com, owned by VDA Trailers, and you need to be registered at this website to register for the race. Participants of races organized by VDA Trailers are all already registered with the site. For those who registering for the first time, you may want to first register at 100x100trail.com, before pre-registration of the race begins.
There will be a pre-registration period between February 1, 2016 at 12 pm to February 14, 2016 at 6 pm during which candidates will fill in the online form in its entirety and make a payment of €10.00.
After payment is received and confirmed by the online interbank payment service, the pre-registration will be added to the Organization’s database, and a confirmation email will be sent.
Pre-registrations will only be considered valid if the payment is successfully made and confirmed by the international credit card payment system. The Organization claims no responsibility concerning acceptance of online payments.
At the end of the pre-registration period, after all checks have been carried out, the list of the 700 runners accepted into the race will be drafted.
In case of exclusion, the pre-registration charge will not be refunded.
DETERMINING THE LIST OF ADMITTED RUNNERS
The list of admitted runners will be determined by a draw, taking into account country quotas, as detailed below.
Only those who have successfully paid for pre-registration will be considered.
The names of all runners who have not been accepted will make up the waiting list, in the order determined by random draw, which will be made public at the end of the draw process.
The Tor des Géants® is not just a sporting event but also a means to promote the Valle d'Aosta region throughout the world, and to enhance the value inherent in the blending of cultures and the cooperation among nations, thus encompassing the spirit of the mountain itself.
To this end, the organization has decided to establish country quotas with the following criteria:
each country represented in the pre-registration list has the right, whatever the number of registrations may be, to a minimum of 2 participants
the remaining quota of runners per country will be established in proportion to the percentage of the total number of non-Italian pre-registrations.
The maximum number of registered runners of Italian nationality may not exceed 40% of the total, of which one third will comprise runners from the Valle d'Aosta region.
SECOND CONTRIBUTING FACTOR
Candidates who were not drawn for the 2015 race benefit from a second contributing factor which doubles their chances for the 2016 draw (strictly for that individual). In practice, the names of the runners who pre-registered in 2015, but were who were not drawn, are then entered twice in the next draw, giving those competitors double the chance.
Runners who, in 2015, were drawn, but did not confirm their participation, lose the right to this priority position.
To obtain this priority position, runners must proceed to pre-registration within the deadline.
TURNOVER OF PARTICIPANTS
In order to ensure progressive turnover of runners, competitors who have registered for three consecutive editions of the Tor des Géants® may not participate in the fourth edition, with the exclusion of Senators.
Example: a runner who registered for the 2013-2014-2015 editions consecutively may not register for the 2016 edition.
Senators have an automatic right to be included in the list of registered competitors.
Senators are all those runners who have completed all five editions of the Tor des Géants® (2010- 2011-2012-2013-2014-2015). Even senators must pre-register and then proceed to the final registration, like everyone else, in order to formalize their participation.
Once the list of runners is drawn, the remaining runners will comprise the waiting list.
Runners on the waiting list might have the opportunity to replace runners whose names were drawn but who don’t intend to run. In the case of a runner declining participation, the Organization will contact the first person on the waiting list to offer them the opportunity to replace that runner, letting them know also how they can confirm acceptance and registration. The country quota rule will remain in effect, according to which a runner will be replaced by a runner of the same nationality. In the event that a runner cannot be replaced by one of the same nationality, the next person on the waiting list will be offered the place.
All runners whose entries have been officially accepted will be sent a confirmation email before February 28, 2016. They will have a time period, between March 1 to March 15, 2016, to finalize their enrollment, proceeding to payment of the registration fee (€550.00) by credit card.
After payment is received and confirmed by the online interbank payment service, their entry will be registered on the Organization’s database, and they will be sent a confirmation email.
Registrations will only be considered valid if the payment is successfully made and confirmed by the international credit card payment system. The Organization claims no responsibility concerning acceptance of online payments.
If a runner does not finalize their enrollment on time (i.e. before the deadline of March 15, 2016), they will be automatically replaced by the first runner on the waiting list, according to the rules of substitution detailed above.
DISCLAIMER AND MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
To complete the registration process, a medical certificate declaring fitness for competitive sports and the disclaimer of liability must be uploaded to your personal profile at (www.100x100trail.com), no later than August 1, 2016.
In the event that the competitor does not provide a medical certificate and the disclaimer in time, they will not be able to take part in the competition.
Certificates or registrations will not be accepted at the race starting point.
