Hut manager

“When in the middle of the night, out of nowhere, a light appears, then you have found a hut. If then you are in a small alpine village, made up of a few mountain lodges, one pressed against the another, that hut may be the Vieux Crest”. This is how the hut manager wants to describe the approach to his ‘refuge. “You will never be a client, but a very welcomed guest, searching for a different kind of place, quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday”.

The hut

On the slope which leads down towards Champoluc, the hut offers a breathtaking view of the valley below. Reachable by a small shadowy path between the ‘rascards’ (mountain lodges), the hut has seven rooms, which have between four and eight beds. It is an intimate and traditional environment, offering a tasty menu which is typical of the region.
It is situated in the rustic village of Walser del Crest, close to the cableway station which goes under the same name, on the skiing resort of Monterosa-Ski (it is also open during the winter season). Created by restoring an old sixteenth-century factory, it is worth visiting just to admire the structure. There is also an antique communal oven, situated at the entrance to the town.

Activities

The hut can be used as a departure point for any hike in the Pinter valley (among which you can make the ascent to the Testa Grigia and to the Pinter and Perin Lakes) or as a stopping-off point for the trails which join the valleys and villages of Walser di Mascognaz and Resy (Bettaforca valley) or, crossing the Colle del Pinter, the Gressoney Valley.
It is ideal for hikers or mountaineers, and can accommodate small sporting and cral groups: for skiing in winter, and for judo or simply hiking in summer.
