COUNCILLORS’ PRESENTATION
The Regional Councillors for Tourism, Sports, Trade and Transport and Agriculture and Natural Resources are honoured to present the first edition of the “Tor des Géants”, the first single-stage endurance trail in the mountains. An event of this kind has never before been witnessed in the Valle d’Aosta, and its organisation requires the collaboration of a wide range of private and public bodies, volunteers and local associations, to which we would immediately like to extend our heartfelt thanks.
A foot race that runs along the route of the Alte Vie high mountain trails and goes right around the region, crossing through the beautiful landscape of two natural parks and passing by the loftiest of Europe’s Four-Thousanders.
This is a demanding race, requiring great physical and mental resistance, but it is also an event we believe in very much, because trekking is an activity of particular importance to tourism here in the Valle d’Aosta, and the Alte Vie are perhaps the finest examples of routes running through spectacular landscape that make it possible to cross from one valley into another, stopping along the way in mountain huts or bivouacs.
This race is thus a matchless opportunity to encourage people onto these beautiful – and safe – routes and to get to know our region better through a foot race through the highest peaks in the Alps able to transmit to runners and spectators alike a truly unique, unforgettable thrill that will remain with them forever.
There will, of course, be a winner and an official ranking drawn up at the end of the race, but this event is more about taking part, and runners will be above all be measuring up against themselves and their own staying power. Everyone who crosses the finishing line will be a winner.
