We remind here that the jacket must have a minimum waterproofness of 20,000 mm and a transpirability of MVTR 18,000 g/mq/24h. These numbers are guaranteed by several membranes used in the manufacture of the garments. Among these Goretex Polartec, Sympatex and Schoeller are the most well-known, but are not the only ones that meet the required standards. Therefore there are no brand limitations, but only of performance.
Water resistance
The water resistance of a fabric is defined by placing the fabric under a column of water that rises until the water passes through the fabric; the height attained in mm defines the water resistance of such fabric.
Recommended minimum
At 20,000 mms it has good water resistance (this means: a 20,000 mms water column).
Breathability
The breathability value is obtained by the quantity of moisture vapor passing though a square meter of fabric in 24 hours. The most common measurement units are: MVTR (Moisture vapor transmission rate) or RET (Resistance of Evaporation of a Textile).
Recommended minimum for intense sporting activity
MVTR breathability value: 18,000 g/mq/24h sufficiently breathable
RET breathability value: from 0 to 6: extremely breathable fabric – from 6 to 13: good or very breathable
As for the shoes, A0 and minimalist barefoot are not permitted. Freeway instead to all other types of shoes including Drop zero and the minimalist with a midsole between 10 and 20 mm.
