GTC splits in three!

Tue, 26/05/2015 - 16:11 -- Visitatore (not verified)

In July, Aosta Valley is a wonderful place for Italian and foreigners trailers in order to train and have fun. There are people who want to try part of the Tor des Géants paths, people who want to do the “italian” part of UTMB and people who just want to have a run up on height enjoying the amazing landscape of the Valley.

In a little bit more then a month ( 11/12 of July) a unique event will take place on this paths which are so mythical and loved by all the people who loves running in the mountains: it is the Gran Trail Courmayeur. This year GTC is divided in three distances, adding to its traditional 60 and 90 km a shorter 30 km race.

The 30 km race is developed for most of its length in Val Ferret and it is suitable for everyone who is still training for longer races or for everyone who wants to run up on quote without huge altitude range but still enjoying the magnificent view of the Gran Jorasses which are an amazing background.

30 km start at 11 am, total dislivello is 2000 metres, part of which is right at the beginning of the race in order to reach Rifugio Bertone. From Bertone runners has to run an easy path to Rifugio Bonatti, go up to Col Entre Deus Sauts, pass by La Souche and go down again to Courmayeur. Maximum time to complete the race is 8 ore.

The 60 km race doubles lenght, altitude range and maximum time to complete the race. From the starting line, the race takes the opposite direction going through Val Veny. First of all, runners has to go up to Col d’Arp, which is also the first ascend of Tor des Géants, then go to Mont Fortin ( highest point of the race, which will be reached at km 24). Start is at 6am.

Last but not least, the 90 km race which has 6000 meters of altitude range. It basically includes both the 30 and 60 km paths, passing through the most fascinating places of Val Ferret and Val Veny. Maximum time to complete the 90 km is 26 hours.

Every races requires compulsory equipment in the backpack which is necessary to avoid rick connected to ascension up in the mountain and to change of temperature and clime. Along the way, runners will find refreshment points and, after the finish line, an hot meal.

Everything will end with the award ceremony with beautiful prize to be randomly extracted between all the runner: after that, music and a big barbecue in order to keep the party going also after the race!

Everyone who will finish the 90 km will have the possibility to sleep in a facilities in Courmayeur.
